Synopsis:
A new and shocking version of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic tale of depravity, lust, love and
horror. On the fog-bound streets of Victoria-era London, Henry Jekyll’s experiments with exotic
“Powders and Tinctures” have brought forth his other self - Edward Hyde, a sensualist and villain free to commit the sins Jekyll is too civilized to comprehend. When Hyde meets a woman who stirs his interest, Jekyll fears for her life and decides to end his experiments. But Hyde has other ideas, and so the two sides battle each other in a deadly game of cat-and-mouse to determine who shall be the master and who is his slave.
ROLES AVAILABLE
Dr. Henry Jekyll: Male. Age range, 40’s to 50’s.
Elizabeth Jelkes: Female. Age range, 20’s to 40’s.
- The role of Edward Hyde will be performed by four different actors. You will be expected to double with at least one other character.
Edward Hyde (1), Gabriel Utterson: Male. Age range, 30’s to 50’s.
Edward Hyde (2), Richard Enfield, O. F. Sanderson: Male.
Edward Hyde (3), Dr. H.K. Lanyon: Male. Age range, 30’s to 50’s.
Edward Hyde (4), Poole: Female. Age range, 30’s to 50’s.
Sir Danvers Carew: Male. Any age.
The Inspector: Male. Any age.
- Other ensemble roles available: Policeman, Prostitute, Surgical Student, Maid, Old Woman, Little Girl, Drunkard, Hotel Clerk, Morgue Orderly. Actors will be expected to double. Two female actors will be needed to perform both as stagehands and characters for the play. They will act as “spirits” for Dr. Henry Jekyll. They will be dressed in costumes and expected to perform, albeit silently, for the audience.
Please prepare a one-minute monologue of Horror.
There will also be cold readings from the script.
