Spring is born out of winters laboring pain in the timeless musical The Fantasticks at John Glenn High School April 1-4, 2020"Try to Remember" a time when this romantic charmer wasn't enchanting audiences around the world. The Fantasticks is the longest-running musical in the world and with good reason: at the heart of its breathtaking poetry and subtle theatrical sophistication is a purity and simplicity that transcends cultural barriers. The result is a timeless fable of love that manages to be nostalgic and universal at the same time.The Fantasticks is a funny and romantic musical about a boy, a girl, and their parents who try to keep them apart. The narrator, El Gallo, asks the audience to use their imagination and follow him into a world of moonlight and magic. The boy and the girl fall in love, grow apart and finally find their way back to each other after realizing the truth in El Gallo's words that, "without a hurt, the heart is hollow."The production at John Glenn High School in Norwalk, CA is directed by Jonathan D. Mesisca. Visiting professionals Cheryl Gaul is at the Piano, with Caroline Reyes on Harp. The cast is Devin Delgado (The Narrator), Gabriella Estrada (The Girl), Ubaldo Ortiz (The Boy), Mia Delgadillo (Bellomy), Jimmy Jimenez (Hucklebee), Edmund Shryock (The Old Actor), Simon Strukelj (The Man Who Dies), and Brissa Tovar (The Mute). Joseph Nunez serves as the Production Stage Manager and Adriana Zaragoza is the Assistant Stage Manager. Jeremy Alonso and Liz Ruano are the Lighting Designers and Technicians. Alumni Gustavo Ortiz returns as Scenic Designer with Ernie Medina and Brooke Faith Emmallah on his construction team. Karissa Meno, Yadira Mendoza-Lopez, and Savannah Quesada serve as the Wardrobe and Properties Managers. Brandon Nunez will be the Sound Technician.The Fantasticks plays the JGHS Mainstage April 1, 2, 3, and 4 at 7pm with an additional Saturday Matinee at 2pm.
