The Abbey Theatre, National Theatre of Ireland, Tours New Production of Sean O'Casey's The Plough and the Stars to Columbus October 26-30

In 1916, Ireland raged against British rule, resulting in a six-day, armed rebellion that became known as the Easter Rising. The Plough and the Stars is the story of ordinary lives ripped apart by the idealism of the time, as the residents of a Dublin tenement seek shelter from the violence sweeping through the city's streets. Revolution has finally arrived, but what kind of Ireland awaits? When The Plough and the Stars was first performed at the Abbey Theatre in 1926, the audience rioted. Today regarded as a masterpiece, this provocative play is an indispensable window into the political culture of Ireland at one of its most pivotal moments in history.

Over the decades, many directors have revisited this classic play, presenting new productions and different interpretations of the piece. But today, 100 years since the Easter Rising and 90 years since the contentious premiere of Sean O'Casey's absorbing play, the Abbey Theatre, National Theatre of Ireland, invites audiences to view the work with fresh eyes and rediscover its human story through the perspective of Olivier Award-winning director Sean Holmes.

The cast features Ian-Lloyd Anderson (as Jack Clitheroe), Tony Clay (as Sergeant Tinley), Lloyd Cooney (as Lieut. Langon), David Ganly (as Fluther Good), James Hayes (as Peter Flynn), Liam Heslin (as Capt. Brennan), Ger Kelly (as A Bar-tender), Janet Moran (as Mrs. Gogan), Ciarán O'Brien (as The Young Covey), Mahnoor Saad (as Mollser), Kate Stanley Brennan (as Nora Clitheroe) Nima Taleghani (as Corporal Stoddart), Eileen Walsh (as Bessie Burgess), and Nyree Yergainharsian (as Rosie Redmond).

The creative team consists of Jon Bausor (set design) Paul Keogan (lighting design), Catherine Fay (costume design), Philip Stewart (composer and sound design), and Ronan Phelan (associate director).
