Act One follows Joe who has been so dazzled by a woman he briefly met in passing that he now sees her face in every face he sees. Embarking on a quest to find his mystery girl, Joe eventually encounters the police who, it seems, are also searching for this same woman. Who she is or why the police want her, Joe doesn't' know, but he eventually does uncover one important fact: Her name is Destiny.

Act Two follows Destiny who is seeking a man she was so dazzled by that she now sees his face in every face she sees. Little does anyone know that Destiny is also the Vigil Ant, a would-be super hero seeking justice in a world as she also seeks her Joe.

About the Playwright Originally from Spearfish, South Dakota, Rand Higbee earned a Theatre degree from South Dakota State University and later a Master of Fine Arts degree in Playwriting from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. While at UNLV, his first full-length play, SIR ISAAC'S DUEL was named an alternate to the National American College Theatre Festival held at the Kennedy Center.

Since UNLV days, as Rand likes to put it, his plays have been performed from Anchorage, Alaska to Hollywood, Florida and many place in between. He won the Wisconsin Wrights award for his superhero play THE LIGHTNING BUG while his short play NEXT! Has become of the most often performed high school one-acts in the country. His comic fiction play THE HEAD THAT WOULDN'T has been performed around the country and even in the UK. In 2013, his end-of-the-world-family-sitcom AT HOME WITH THE CLARKS debuted at Anchorage Community Theatre and then was performed at the Las Frontier Theatre Conference (in Valdez, Alaska.)

For his most recent play, Rand turned to romantic comedy fare with A GIRL NAMED DESTINY. Debuting in March of 2012 at the Venus Theatre in Laurel, Maryland, "DC Metro Theatre Arts" named it one of the best plays of the year. Rand currently lives in Hager City, Wisconsin.

A GIRL NAMED DESTINY has had one previous production in 2012 at the Venus Theatre in Laurel, Maryland.

Andy Batt, Artistic Director: "This is a truly unique look at the concept of love at first sight. I have not read such a well-written two-actor show. The dialogue is funny and tight and the concept is tremendous. With just two actors playing all the different characters in the play, there's no doubt that this one was right up MadLab's alley."

Michelle Batt, Director: "We all have read about love at first sight in folklore and Shakespeare but nothing compares to the story of Joe and Destiny. A Girl Named Destiny is a comedy of two people who see each other once, for a brief moment, and then start seeing the other in everyone they meet. Destiny brings back together one of the best on stage couples of MadLab history, Jennifer Barlup and Andy Batt. From inspectors, to superheros to star crossed soul mates, these two actors will create a night of fun, comedy and multiple characters that you must see. Will Destiny and Joe find each other? You know you want to see how this ends."
