Shadowbox Hosts 1st Sketch Comedy Festival 7/21-22 At Columbus Club

By:

The producers at Shadowbox are planning to host their first sketch comedy festival this July 21 and 22 at the popular Columbus club located at the Easton Town Center.

Shadowbox producers will select 6 troupes to participate in the two-day event, where each troupe will perform a short segment followed by feedback from Shadowbox¹s Executive Producer Steve Guyer, original Saturday Night Live cast member Garret Morris, and others.

The festival will culminate in a ³Best of the Fest² show that will feature each troupe¹s best sketch (selected by the panel of adjudicators) co-mingled with Shadowbox sketches featuring Morris. Shadowbox house band Bill Who? will round out the show in classic Shadowbox style.

"We're really excited to see this idea through to fruition," commented Katy Psenicka, general manager and director of media relations for Shadowbox. "We've talked about hosting a sketch comedy festival for many years, and we're thrilled to have Garret on board. His feedback is highly valuable, not to mention he¹s an amazing performer!"

Troupes will arrive in the afternoon, Tuesday, July 21, to get acclimated to the Shadowbox stage. At 6:00 PM the doors will open and beginning at 7:00 PM each troupe will be given a 20 minute block to perform, followed by a song from BillWho?, followed by commentary from the adjudicators.

Then, on Wednesday, July 22, the troupes will spend the day rehearsing the "Best of the Fest" show with Shadowbox¹s technical crews, producers and Morris. At 6:15 PM the doors will open and at 7:30 the "Best of the Fest" will begin.

"This festival should be a lot of fun," continued Psenicka. "Audiences will get to see numerous troupes performing their best material, Garret Morris performing with Shadowbox cast members, and BillWho? to top it all off!"

The Shadowbox Sketch Comedy Festival will take place July 21 - 22. Troupe showcases will be presented July 21 beginning at 7:00 PM (doors open at 6:00) and the "Best of the Fest" show will be presented July 22 beginning at 7:30 PM (doors open at 6:15). Ticket prices are to be determined.
