PlayhouseSquare Announces First International Children's Festival, 5/3-5/8, 2010

By:

"Celebrating the world we share" is the theme for the first International Children's Festival to be held at PlayhouseSquare May 3-8, 2010. Presented by the Community Engagement & Education Department, the International Children's Festival will be a fun and interactive experience featuring performances, workshops, exhibits and a Global Village.

"Hosting an International Children's Festival has been a long-standing goal of our Community Engagement & Education Department," stated Art J. Falco, PlayhouseSquare President and CEO. "We could not be more pleased that everything is coming together to make it possible for the spring of 2010. This season's Children's Theater Series is sold out, so the Festival will provide another opportunity for schools and families to experience children's theater of the highest quality."

"Part of our not-for-profit mission at PlayhouseSquare is to make sure that our community has every opportunity to engage with live theater," explained Colleen Porter, director of community engagement and education at PlayhouseSquare. "The International Children's Festival is a new way to introduce children to the arts and help them to explore our world."

Tickets for the International Children's Festival at PlayhouseSquare go on sale to the public in January. Children's Theater Series subscribers and PlayhouseSquare donors will be able to purchase their tickets in November. International Children's Festival news and updates can be found at playhousesquare.org/childrenstheater.

Reservations are now being taken for school field trips to the International Children's Festival. Educators can visit playhousesquare.org/education or call 216-348-7909 to find out more.

The International Children's Festival is made possible in part by support from the Ohio Arts Council and is generously supported by the public through a grant from Cuyahoga Arts and Culture. Additional funding for special literacy activities and the festival in general is provided by The Children's Theatre Endowment established by the Junior League of Cleveland and the Laub Foundation.

PlayhouseSquare understands its vital role as an educator in our community, and is committed to providing arts learning opportunities of the highest quality to enrich the lives of students, families, teachers and adults. PlayhouseSquare's Community Engagement & Education Department is unique in the performing arts industry for the variety of programs it offers, the partnerships it initiates and the access it provides students, educators and aspiring artists to performing arts professionals. Since its inception in 1998, the Community Engagement & Education Department has offered thousands of events, workshops, classes and more, most with minimal or no fees, to people of all ages from all areas of Northeast Ohio. The generous support of individual and corporate donors and foundations makes it all possible.
