MARK TWAIN TONIGHT Comes to PlayhouseSquare Tonight

By:

Tony Award winner and Oscar nominee Hal Holbrook returns to PlayhouseSquare for one night only, tonight, February 21st, to reprise his role celebrating the humor, satirical wit and timeless observations of Mark Twain in his acclaimed Tony Award winning one-man show, Mark Twain Tonight!. Tickets start at just $10 and are available by calling 216.241.6000 or online at www.playhousesquare.org.

Hal Holbrook has never been able to quit portraying Mark Twain - and probably never will. Currently 89 years of age, Holbrook has toured the show in some part of every year since 1954, making it the longest running show in American Theater history. But yet the material remains fresh, as Holbrook adds to his repertoire every year, tweaking and editing it to fit the times. Holbrook portrays Mark Twain as the aging character the world knows - a wild white head of hair, beetle brows and moustache, the white suit - and never breaks the illusion that it is Twain himself speaking in his own time.

The show has no set program - Holbrook chooses material from his internal vault as he goes along - meaning that even if you think you have seen Mark Twain Tonight! before, you probably haven't seen this exact show! . "Mark Twain never stops surprising me," says Holbrook. "He's kept me fired up and asking questions most of my 89 years."

A Cleveland native and graduate of Dennison University, Holbrook's career spans well past Mark Twain Tonight! Off stage, Holbrook has been seen in motion pictures like Magnum Force, Wall Street, Creepshow, Water for Elephants, Lincoln and Into the Wild for which he received an Academy Award nomination. Television films and series earned him five Emmy Awards, and a total of twelve nominations. With ninety-eight stage plays in New York and regional theatres around the country, he has been known to say "I've been on the road most of my life."

Hal Holbrook in Mark Twain Tonight! will be at the Connor Palace at PlayhouseSquare for one performance only, Saturday, February 21st at 7:30 PM. Tickets start at just $10, and are available at the PlayhouseSquare ticket office, online at playhousesquare.org or by calling 216.241.6000.
