Chautauqua Theater Company invites applications for production positions for its 2017 summer season. Contracts run 9-12 weeks starting in early/mid June, housing provided. Technical Director

Professional Experience required.

Responsibilities include:



Encouraging a positive, collaborative, and pleasant work environment

Supervising and coordinating the scene shop crew and scenic artists as needed

Creating a detailed schedule, including all working days/hours, in conjunction with the Production Manager

Maintaining the Scene Shop in a clean and organized state, including the areas immediately outside of the scene shop building

Maintaining the inventory of tools and equipment

Facilitating the safety of all those working in the shop by:

Providing the necessary safety supplies

Training the crew as necessary

Ensuring there are no unnecessary hazards

Removing unsafe tools from service

Facilitating the construction, load-in, and maintenance of the scenery for all productions, including New Play Workshops, while maintaining a safe working environment

Acting as the liaison between the company and the scenic designer(s) in obtaining the information necessary for the construction and installation of the production scenery

Planning and installation of rigging for productions as needed, following generally accepted rigging practices

Reviewing preliminary design submittals, and providing an initial budget estimate for time and materials (pre-season)

Providing complete technical drawings for each production prior to construction

Providing a detailed budget projection for each production prior to construction (typically pre-season)

Ordering all materials and supplies required for construction of scenery and maintenance of the scene shop

Managing the budget of Scenic Dept., ensuring no overages, and providing detailed expenditure information to the Production Manager in a timely fashion

During production, facilitate the clean-up of the theater, including the removal of waste

Facilitate the safe removal of all scenery and scenic materials

Attendance at all Production Meetings
