About TDF:



TDF (“Theatre Development Fund”) a not-for-profit organization, founded in 1967 to promote the performing arts, is a broadly-oriented service and advocacy organization dedicated to bringing the power of the performing arts to everyone. TDF’s activities fall into three areas. TDF expands access, making the performing arts accessible to all by removing cultural, physical and financial barriers. TDF cultivates communities of theatergoers, by engaging, educating and encouraging people to make the performing arts an essential part of their lives. TDF supports theatre makers and sustains creators and advances the industry through convenings and research and the TDF Costume Collection. Through its programs, TDF brings theatre into the lives of over 2,000,000 people per year. TDF’s efforts are primarily focused in New York, but it has also been involved in audience development efforts for the performing arts across the United States and, on a limited basis, internationally.



About the Position:



The Dance Program Consultant

• Will work with the Executive Director, Director of Ticketing Programs, Marketing Manager and Manager of Off and Off- Off Broadway services to assess ways in which TDF can increase audiences for dance and thereby increase ticket sales for dance companies throughout NYC.

• Will conduct an audit on TDF’s current dance initiatives.

• Will meet with a wide variety of dance companies and independent artists to assess ways in which TDF could increase ticket sales for their companies, understand who they see as their potential audience and explore joint partnership activities TDF could undertake with companies.

• Will synthesize findings from interviews and research to write strategic plan with programmatic recommendations for creating audience development initiatives that TDF can implement to help build audiences for dance in NYC.



About You:



• You are passionate about all forms of dance in NYC.

• You are knowledgeable about dance and dance companies in New York City.

• You will be knowledgeable about large and small venues for dance throughout New York City.

• You have a passion for building audiences for dance.

• You will be a good listener and communicator.

• You have strong organizational skills, you are self-directed and you are a good writer.



This is an independent contractor position anticipated to commence in October 2018 and finish in June 2019.
