CALL TO TEACHING ARTISTS:

Virginia Stage Company seeks dynamic professional artists of all theatrical disciplines to join a vibrant roster of collaborative teaching artists - Summer 2018 and School Year 2018-2019 positions available!



Summary:

Virginia Stage Company Teaching Artists are placed in short and long term residencies across the 7 cities to teach their craft and assist students in increasing academic and life skills. Actors, designers, writers, technicians, technical directors, production managers, singers, dancers, and stage managers with professional experience and an interest in working with students and adults in Hampton Roads are encouraged to apply.



Required Qualifications:

- Professional skills, training, and experience in one or more theatrical disciplines

- Experience or interest in teaching diverse populations

- Available for assignments in the 2018-2019 school year (September-June with possible

summer 2019 assignments available as well)

- A commitment to mandatory training sessions

- Flexibility to work occasional evening and weekend hours

- Early Career teachers should inquire about Assistant Positions



Preferred Qualifications:

- Prior Teaching or Teaching Artist Experience

- Experience in the Virginia Public School System

- A Bachelors or Masters Degree

- Ability to teach in languages other than English

- Experience with special education populations

A letter of interest and resume should be sent to pmullins@vastage.org in order to be considered for the 2018-2019 academic year. Applicants chosen for consideration will be asked to interview, followed by an "audition" of a teaching sample.

Virginia Stage Company Education Programs connect the seven cities through community-based residencies at schools and partner organizations that ultimately intersect at The Wells Theatre. Community participants work with local artists in their own neighborhoods, watch national artists at work on the Wells stage, and ultimately join the Virginia Stage team in creating an ambitious work of participatory theatre. We are dedicated to the process of embedding artists within our communities, building and strengthening community partnerships, and achieving long lasting impact.
