BWW Review: Cincinnati's SECRET GARDEN Delights

I was shocked and then realized I was behind the eight ball when hearing that Cincinnati's Playhouse in the Park would open its season with a musical interpretation of The Secret Garden. Shocked because I somehow missed that my beloved girlhood book and movie had been turned into a musical. Albeit this occurred back in 1991, but still I found myself curious as to how the story would translate into this medium. Well I watched the performance of this version and I have mixed thoughts.

'Holey Swiss!' by Philip Paradis is one of five new one-act plays to be showcased at Manhattan Repertory Theatre as part of Manhattan Rep's Fall One Act Play Competition on September 21, 24, 25, 26 at 6:30 pm. Other plays in the Series 5 showcase include 'Disposition' by Ange Arabatzis, 'Personally Yours,' by Lawrence F. Schwabacher, 'An Actor's Life For Me,' by Bryon Krueger and Jordan Cwiazdowski, and 'The Crime Is In Getting Caught,' by Raven Petretti.

Wanda Sykes has been called 'one of the funniest stand-up comics' by her peers and ranks among Entertainment Weekly's '25 Funniest People in America.' Her smart-witted stand up has sent her career in many different directions, from TV to film to books. CYRANO DE BERGERAC Opens Next Month at Cincinnati Shakespeare

Cincinnati Shakespeare Company officially opens their 2015-2016 mainstage season with the epic, dazzling, romantic comedy "Cyrano de Bergerac" based on the translation written by Anthony Burgess of the play written by Edmond Rostand playing September 11- October 3, 2015.  This production is directed by CSC Producing Artistic Director, Brian Isaac Phillips and features Cincinnati Shakespeare Resident Ensemble members Jeremy Dubin and Caitlin McWethy. The costume design for "Cyrano de Bergerac" is generously sponsored by 1919 Investment Counsel and Frost Brown Todd.

New Edgecliff Theatre Finds New Home

New Edgecliff Theatre, Cincinnati's actors theater since 1998, is excited to announce its new, permanent Northside location at 1662 Blue Rock Street in what was St. Pius X Catholic Church.  Craft beer company, Urban Artifact, now owns the property, is brewing onsite, and this past May opened a taproom in the church undercroft.  With a long term lease now in place with Urban Artifact, New Edgecliff Theatre will open its 2015-2016 season in what was the church sanctuary.

This year's tour has over 22 performances stops (and growing) of brand new productions of 'Romeo and Juliet' and 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' throughout the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky area at local community parks and venues. These performances are FREE and open to the public. The cast features six actors from CSC Resident Ensemble. Following the Park Tour, these shows will travel and tour to local schools, community centers, venues and other performing arts locations through May 2016.
