WORLD PREMIERE NERDIST DRAMA FROM THEATRE ABOVE THE LAW
Local playwright explores issues of closure we don't always want but need.

Amicable by Ross Compton Directed by Tony Lawry Featuring: Ian Muentener-Gonzalez, David Hartley, Abby Walburn, Gracie Brazeal, Melanie Mcnulty & Izzy Schafer

Synopsis: Have you ever known someone who you definitely considered a friend and yet ...didn't like all that much? Have you ever been enamored with someone who didn't share a fraction of that same enthusiasm? This is a play about why it can be so hard to let these "relationships" die, and the group of people who are forced to do that anyway. Things end. And that's ok.

About the playwright: Ross Compton is a graduate of Ball State University and has been writing and performing in Chicago for over a decade. Though Amicable is his first full-length play, he has written many short plays and sketches as well as collaborate on the hit hip-hopera Dundee. He has primarily pursued acting but is really starting to like this playwright thing. At the end of the day, the play is about those relationships--whether they're romantic, platonic, or even familial-- that don't quite match up equally interest-wise, and how we've all been on both sides of that emotionally lop-sided equation. I believe that most of us are pretty terrible at handling those situations because it's awkward and we don't want to hurt anyone's feelings. That's why we try and drop hints, or ghost, or feign enthusiasm instead of being direct. I got really excited about writing something where the characters can't do that. They are put into a scenario where they HAVE to be brutally honest. I hope the major points audiences walk away with are that we actually always do get closure, it's just not always the closure we want, and that some relationships only last a short time but that's perfectly fine and in some ways actually kind of beautiful."
