Women of the Now:In June, we feature a concert of selected works by contemporary female composers. Join us as we celebrate the Women of the Now. Stay tuned for further details. Patience & Sarah: A Pioneering Love Story
In October, Third Eye presents the Chicago premiere of Patience and Sarah, the first opera to tell a love story between two women. Based on the lives of 19th century American painter Mary Ann Willson and her partner "Miss Brundage," this stunning opera features an entirely female creative team with a female composer, librettist, and novelist. Themes of self-acceptance, forgiveness, and autonomy are woven throughout a tapestry of violence, judgement, and erasure. But throughout it all, the strength of the female spirit soars as we watch Patience and Sarah struggle against class barriers, family expectations, and societal boundaries in order to embrace each other and their own identities.
