Theatre Building Chicago Welcomes Mark Hollmann 3/23

Theatre Building Chicago welcomes back Mark Hollmann, composer/lyricist of Urinetown. "Praised for reinvigorating the very notion of what a musical could be" MTI. The show had tremendous success during its run on Broadway, including 3 Tony Awards in 2002 and 9 Drama Desk nominations in 2001. Hollmann studied in TBC’s Musical Theatre Writer’s Workshop.

Hollmann will speak about his inspirational journey as a writer of musical theatre, and the role that the TBC Workshop played, giving him the fundamentals to succeed as he developed in his career. His story is stirring and appealing for any fledgling artist, writer or lover of theatre. He will also talk about his current projects – Yeast Nation: The Triumph of Life and The Girl, the Grouch, and the Goat.

Theatre Building Chicago is an incubator for developing musical artists, and the Musical Theatre Writer’s Workshop is an immersive training program for those with a passion to create musicals. Led by John Sparks, Artistic Director, the workshop has been helping shape artists for over 15 years. Hollmann was a student in the 1990’s, and is one of many success stories from the program.
