Shattered Globe's THE WHALESHIP ESSEX Crew Partners with Shedd Aquarium for Great Lakes Action Day

By:

Shattered Globe and the crew of its newest play, The Whaleship Essex, are partnering with Shedd Aquarium's Great Lakes Action Day (GLAD). The two organizations are creating an event for theatre lovers and environmental enthusiasts. GLAD is a group affiliated with Shedd Aquarium that works to clean up local beaches and is committed to habitat restoration for native wildlife. GLAD has 6 designated clean up locations throughout the city of Chicago and these locations are cleaned every 3 weeks. At 12th Street Beach alone 50-100 pounds of trash are collected every three weeks. Now that's a lot of trash!

Shattered Globe Theatre's upcoming production, The Whaleship Essex, looks at the relentless pursuit of oil and how our available natural resources are dwindling. Through a partnership with GLAD, Shattered Globe hopes to create a team of motivated crew members to join Shattered Globe at 12pm on September 20th* at 63rd Street Beach (the beach just south of the Museum of Science + Industry) to help the clean-up process! September 20th is an important date for the environmental efforts because it is International Shore Clean Up Day. All participants who join the crew get free pizza as well as a 2 for 1 offer on tickets for the production of The Whaleship Essex by Ensemble Member Joe Forbich. Previews begin August 28th and the show sails through October 11.

Hopefully by partnering with Shattered Globe and GLAD, everyone can make the city of Chicago a cleaner and happier place for generations to come.

Please RSVP to info@shatteredglobe.org if you are available to work on September 20th. Your RSVP is important, as space is limited. And...no pressure....those who don't sign up are welcome to walk the plank!

* If you are unable join us that on September 20th, GLAD continues its important work on other days and you should feel free to contact GLAD directly to help clean up Chicago's beautiful beaches.

Shattered Globe Theatre was born in a storefront space on Halsted Street in 1991. Since then, we have produced more than 60 plays, including 9 American and World premieres, and have garnered an impressive 42 Jeff Awards and 97 Jeff Award Nominations, as well as the acclaim of critics and audiences alike.
