New York Theater Ballet Takes The Center Stage In Chicago

Praised as a groundbreaking company for its innovative and entertaining one-hour story ballets, New York Theatre Ballet takes the stage for the first time at The Center with performances of "Sleeping Beauty" and "Carnival of the Animals" from its popular "Once Upon a Ballet" series. Spend the afternoon with affordable family friendly entertainment at The Center, plus a free, post-show meet and greet with the stars of New York Theatre Ballet.

NYTB's "Sleeping Beauty" is a delightful one-hour ballet created for children, choreographed by James Sutton based on the original 1890 production by Russian choreographer Marius Petipa, NYTB's staging delivers the magic and mystery of Princess Aurora's sixteenth birthday, an enchanted spell and a beautiful wedding, complete with a perfect storybook happy ending. The classic tale is brought to life through enchanting dance and the music of Tchaikovsky. In Beth Storey Taylor's staging of "Carnival of the Animals," two children wander into a magical forest ruled by Diana, Queen of the Forest, and her shaggy lion. At first, the children are frightened by the boisterous animals, especially when they come charging out of the woods carrying huge knives, forks and spoons! But Queen Diana makes her animal subjects show the children kindness and respect, gifts that should be given to everyone by all creatures.
