Composer Michael John LaChiusa visits Columbia College Chicago 3/2-3

The Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department is thrilled to welcome composer, lyricist and librettist Michael John LaChiusa to Chicago on March 2 and 3, 2011 in conjunction with the department's production of Mr. LaChiusa's musical BERNARDA ALBA, an adaptation of Spanish playwright Federico Garcia Lorca's classic drama THE HOUSE OF BERNARDA ALBA.

LaChiusa will attend a performance of BERNARDA ALBA on Wednesday, March 2 at 1:30 p.m. in the Getz Theater, 72 E. 11th St. The performance is open to the public, as is a post-show discussion with Mr. LaChiusa beginning at 2:45 p.m. For the discussion, LaChiusa will be joined by Theatre Department faculty members Kimberly Senior (director of the production), Stephanie Shaw (playing the title role in the production), and Coya Paz. ickets are required to attend the performance of BERNARDA ALBA: call the Columbia College Theater Box Office at 312-369-6126. However, the post-show discussion is free and does not require reservations.

LaChiusa also will attend several classes during his visit to Columbia College Chicago to work with musical theatre majors as a guest teacher and guest speaker.

LaChiusa's other credits for the musical theatre include The Wild Party (co-written with George C. Wolfe), produced by Columbia College Chicago's Theater Department in 2010, Marie Christine, First Lady Suite, See What I Wanna See, Little Fish and Hello, Again, among others. Mr. LaChiusa is an Obie Award winner, Daytime Emmy Award winner, a three-time Tony Award nominee, and received the first Stephen Sondheim Award in 1989. He has been a contributing writer to The New York Times, Opera News and other periodicals. He is currently on the faculty at New York University, and has been an adjunct professor at Yale School of Drama.
