The Chicago theater community provides thrills and chills for the 2012 Halloween season. From faithful adaptations of creepy classics to playful musical parodies, there is something for everyone during the spookiest time of year. The following is a selection of Halloween-themed work playing in Chicago this season:

New Millennium Theatre presents Kill Viktor: Vol. 1&2, a tribute to one of Quentin Tarantino’s most famous films, at Theater Wit through October 28, 2012.

Back by popular demand, Fox Valley Repertory presents the suspense thriller The Woman in Black at Pheasant Run Report and Spa through October 28, 2012.

Theatre of Western Springs brings Bram Stoker’s original bloodsucker to the stage in Dracula, October 18 - 28, 2012.

Theatre-Hikes presents The Werewolf’s Curse, or Hair Today Gone Tomorrow - a spoof of 1930s horror movies - at the Morton Arboretum in Lisle through October 28, 2012.

Corn Productions gets interactive with Death Toll: A Drinking Game Performance, October 18 – 31, 2012 at the Cornservatory. Plus, zombies take over the Windy City in Nightmares on Lincoln Ave IV: Welcome to the Undead City, also at the Cornservatory through October 31, 2012.

Chemically Imbalanced Theater presents the horror-comedy Birth of Evil through October 31, 2012.

The Annoyance Theatre presents Splatter Theater, a parody of “Friday the 13th”-type slasher movies, and Zombie Genius, a comedic look at life after the zombie apocalypse, through October 31, 2012.

Chemically Imbalanced Theater pays loving tribute to the 1989 film “Troll 2” with Troll the Sequel, Troll Again! through October 31, 2012.

City Lit Theater presents an adaptation of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein through November 4, 2012.

First Folio Theatre brings Poe’s macabre and melancholic tales life in The Madness of Edgar Allan Poe at the Mayslake Peabody Estate through November 4, 2012.

WildClaw Theatre presents the stage adaptation of Clive Barker’s short story The Life of Death at the DCASE Storefront Theatre through November 4, 2012.

Hell in a Handbag Productions presents Scarrie: The Musical, an homage to the Stephen King novel and classic Brian DePalma film, at Mary's Attic through November 10, 2012.

The Strange Tree Group presents Funeral Wedding: The Alvin Play, at Signal Ensemble Theatre, October 16 - November 17, 2012

500 Clown Frankenstein returns to the Viaduct Theater, October 31 - November 18, 2012.
