Children's Theatre of Charlotte Presents THE COMMEDIA KING ARTHUR, 4/23-5/2

By:

Children's Theatre of Charlotte's Resident Touring Company, the Tarradiddle Players, gives a hilarious new twist to the story of King Arthur in the final show of their 2009-2010 season, "The Commedia King Arthur" (April 23-May 2).

When bedraggled young squire Arthur forgets his master's sword, he needs to find a substitute quickly if he wants to keep his job. He grabs the nearest sword he can find, which happens to be sticking out of a big rock, and the rest is history - or at least legend. This quickly moving production features many well-known Arthurian tales, making it a perfect introduction to an English classic.

The story is told in the centuries-old Italian Commedia dell'arte theatre style that inspired modern day comedians like Abbott and Costello and the Marx Brothers. Fresh, fast-paced and full of physical humor, Commedia shows are always faithful to the original tale, but with an added bonus of slapstick silliness that leaves audiences helpless with laughter.

"The Commedia King Arthur" is directed by Tarradiddle Manager and former Tarradiddle Player Steven Ivey and stars the 2009-2010 Tarradiddle Players company: Salvador Garcia, Leslie Ann Giles, Darlene Parker and Stephen Seay.

The Tarradiddle Players are the Resident Touring Company of Children's Theatre of Charlotte. In addition to appearances on Children's Theatre stages, this professional four-person troupe spreads the joy of live theatre across the Southeast. This season, the Tarradiddle Players will travel from Virginia to South Carolina, performing in schools, community centers and towns for audiences who might otherwise never see a live play. Meet the Tarradiddle Players and hear stories from the road at an audience talkback following the opening night performance on April 23.
