Set in early 1980's Chinquapin Parish Louisiana, Steel Magnolias is both a comedy and a drama, following a group of best friends who hang out at Truvy’s Salon. It recounts the real life story of a woman (based on author Robert Harling's sister) who is a Type 1 diabetic and risks everything to give birth to her own child.
