Utsav 2016 Indian Arts Gala Set For Today

By:

UTSAV is a Sanskrit word meaning "festival" or "celebration." In this year's theme, experience the exuberant, joyous and love-filled fairytale event created in the joining of two traditional Indian families through the love story and marriage of their children. It's a once-in-a-lifetime event, not to be missed!

Highlights: Social Hour Lyet Lobby | 5:00 - 6:00 pm The evening kicks off with the opportunity for guests to mingle while munching on some delicious Indian appetizers. Vegetable samosas (savory pastry), Channa masala (flavorful chickpeas), paneer pakoras (cheese fritters) served with tamarind-date chutney, mint-coriander chutney and a spicy onion relish. Take photos with your friends and family in front of some elaborate ethnic backdrops, kind courtesy of Ole' Photography, or adorn your hands with artistic henna designs skillfully performed by henna artist Mamta Arora.

Cultural Program Steinman Hall | 6:00 - 7:30 pm The featured performance for the event, "Love Conquers," is a wonderful love story. When it comes to weddings, Indians believe in the Big Bang theory - everything happens with a "dhamaka," a big bang! All the fairytale fantasies of the couple and their parents are expected to materialize and this joyous occasion is meant to bring not only the couple together but also the two families. Experience Rathi and Jay's love story, the union of the two families (the "Iyers" and "Khannas") and what happens when things don't go as planned. Does love ultimately conquer? Dinner Atrium | 7:30 - 9:00 pm A sumptuous dinner of authentic Indian cuisine catered by Taj Mahal Restaurant in Lancaster will follow the cultural program. Dinner items include Chicken Vindaloo (chicken in a tangy sauce), Basmati Rice, Naan (oven baked flatbread), Paneer Tikka Masala (Indian cheese in an aromatic tomato sauce), Malai Kofta (vegetable balls in a creamy cashew sauce), and Vegetable Jalfrezi (seasonal stir fried vegetables). Dessert items include Gulab Jamun (cheese balls in honey syrup), and Kheer (flavorful rice pudding). Dancing Lyet Lobby | 9:00 - 10:00 pm The evening concludes as we burn off those dinner calories by dancing to the tunes of DJ Nash. All guests are encouraged to participate
