Spoken-word artist Evita Colon will voice the stories of her people through the West African tradition of spoken word, song, and dance, showing her people's varying responses to the changing world around them throughout the generations in "Speak to My Soul: A Montage of Voices", for her first appearance at the Ware Center on Sunday, January 24, 2016, at 2 p.m. Colon and several other actors will tell 19 stories, including "Mama's Children," "The Crazy Sista," and "Incarcerated Brother." The Ware Center is located at 42 N. Prince Street, Lancaster.

Unlike most linear plays where the characters undergo a transformation by the end of the play, the characters in "Speak to My Soul: A Montage of Voices" complete their transformations by the end of their individual poem, song, or dance. The play begins with natives in Africa, prior to colonial invasion, and then abruptly changes as they are sold into slavery. The audience is then taken on a journey that spans generations, movements, and both societal and individual challenges.

Colon shares that "the underlying theme of the play is about knowing who you are and where you came from while accepting those characteristics at the same time."

"Speak to my Soul: A Montage of Voices" was created by Evita Colon in 2014 after successfully debuting her theatrical production, "Speak to my Soul: A Montage of Voices" at Shippensburg University. Inspired by the great reviews, Evita decided to use the title and embody the topics of the play into a community outreach group of the arts. Shortly after Evita graduated from Shippensburg University in May 2014, "Speak to my Soul" was rebranded and born again.
