Adirondack Shakespeare Company to Present HERCULES, 7/11-28
By: Kelsey Denette
Adirondack Shakespeare Company's original children's programming continues this year with The Twelve Labors of Hercules, an adventure story written by Jessica Hackett.
Hercules tells the story of Octavius and Agrippa, two young Romans who can't see eye to eye on anything. When the goddess Athena decides to intervene they are magically transported back to Ancient Greece and transformed into Hercules and his clever sidekick, Iolaus. Once there, they are forced to work together in order to complete Hercules' twelve labors and in the process, learn an important lesson about the value of friendship.
"We were looking to create something that would work on several levels and be fun both for adults and children," says Hackett. "We were weaving Greek and Roman mythology in with modern humor to create this adventure that both children and their parents would love."
As with all of ADK Shakes' productions, Hercules will be brought to life using their unique RAW performance style, which strips the show down to its essentials. The company is particularly excited about mixing their RAW performance style with the masks and puppets that are being constructed to create the fantastic and monstrous creatures of Hercules' labors. The show will feature Mitchell Conway as Agrippa/Hercules, Aaron White as Octavius/Iolaus, and Rachel Ritacco, Tara Bradway and Patrick Siler as the gods and monsters that the heroes must face.
The Twelve Labors of Hercules will open at the Boathouse Theater in Schroon Lake on July 11th, and will run for a two-week tour before ADK Shakes' Mainstage Season begins on July 28th. A limited number of performances will be offered through August 15th. Tickets are currently available on adkshakes.ticketleap.com
