The Duplex Presents Frank Loman in UND DIE LIEDER BEGINNEN Tonight, 5/24

By:

The Duplex, in association with Ward More UND DIE LIEDER BEGINNEN with Frank Loman tonight, May 24.

"Professor Loman" spoke eloquently and with much passion about the power of language in his last show here in the states i.e. "Dangerous Cabaret". In this brand new outing, Frank goes into further explanation on the complexities of language especially when it moves from French to German to English.

"Language is a risky way to communicate with another human being," says Loman. "There is a great chance to be misunderstood - particularly when language travels across borders. But in this also lies the fascination and enjoyment for us singers: being able to express the same melody with different words and by doing this ever so slightly changing the meaning of the song. So with this show I wanted not to compare but celebrate the beauty of French, German and, of course, English. I also wanted to use this opportunity and introduce songs by modern French & German writers to the American audience. Songs for musical theatre productions like Elisabeth in Vienna and Starmania in Paris, the Eurovision Song Contest, songs from the German 'Kleinkunstszene', songs by Jean Jacques Goldman & Lara Fabian as well as classics by Brel, Brecht & Hollaender. So LET THE SONGS BEGIN - LES CHANSONS COMMENCENT!"

The show will mainly consist of songs by Weill, Brecht, Brel in combination with modern French and German composers (J.J. Goldman, Lara Fabian, Michel Berger, Luc Plandmondon, Rainer Bielfeldt and others). Frank's aim is to combine something people know (Brel, Brecht) with the un-known.

Born and raised in Germany, Loman's theatrical credits include Roman Polanski's production of "Dance of the Vampires", "Titanic", "Les Miserables", "West Side Story", "The Rocky Horror Show", "Orpheus in the Underworld", and "You're a Good Man Charlie Brown". He made his West End debut in "Les Miserables" at the Palace Theatre as Babet and understudy to Enjolras and appeared as Benjamin Stone in Sondheim's "Follies" in the Off-Westend production in 2011. As an experimental cabaret artist, Loman has performed in Vienna, Berlin, Amsterdam and in London at the Jermyn Street Theatre, LauderDale House, Above the Stag and at the Leicester Square Theatre. Frank made his NYC cabaret debut as one half of the "Lyrical Linguists from London" with Ellen Verenieks.

Steven Gross collaborated as orchestrator/arranger/developer on new musicals with composers such as Benny Andersson & Bjorn Ulvaeus, Cy Coleman, David Friedman, and Mark Hollmann. He also works actively as an orchestrator and arranger for many symphony orchestras, as well as varied television, radio, video and on-line stations. His musical "Nijinsky" has been performed in Berlin, Hamburg, Aurich and will debut in Lausanne and in Paris.

There is a $15 music charge. Information and reservations can be found by calling 212-255-5428.
