THE GREEN ROOM 42 - Broadway's newest intimate concert venue - has announced the debut of Sumayya Ali, featured in the original Broadway cast of Natasha, Pierre and The Great Comet of 1812, Spike Lee's Red Hook Summer, and the Broadway revival of Porgy and Bess on Friday, March 23 at 9:30 PM. Her show "Heavy is The Head" is a spellbinding evening in which she explores esoteric identity and purpose through her original compositions juxtaposing electronica, classical and rock/soul into some favorite Broadway, jazz and pop standards.

Sumayya Ali is a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who has created a career on Broadway and opera. Her Broadway credits include Ragtime (2009 revival), The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess and Natasha, Pierre and The Great Comet of 1812. She is currently finishing her debut album, The War of Me, in which she fuses electronic music with soul, rock and opera to symbolize her journey towards the Divine. Ms. Ali was featured in Spike Lee's movie, Red Hook Summer. You can catch her on NBC TV this Easter on April 1 in the movie, Easter Mysteries.

Born in Lawrence, Kansas, Sumayya developed the role of Harriet Tubman in the new opera Harriet Tubman: When I Crossed that Line to Freedom with American Opera Projects. She also was a part of Master Class at the Kennedy Center with Tyne Daly. As a full lyric soprano, Ms. Ali was a Boston district winner of the Metropolitan Opera auditions. She holds a bachelor degree in music from Spelman College as well as a master degree in music from The New England Conservatory in Boston, MA.

Sumayya Ali will perform at The Green Room 42 (570 Tenth Avenue at 42nd Street, on the 4th Floor of Yotel) on Friday, March 23 at 9:30 PM. Tickets range from $15 to $40. There is no food and drink minimum. For tickets, please visit www.TheGreenRoom42.com.
