Patti LuPone, Jesse Tyler Ferguson & More Set for Reproductive Rights Benefit at 54 Below

By:

Reproductive rights advocacy organization A is For is bringing together stars of stage and screen with "Broadway Acts for Women: A Star-Studded Night of Karaoke and Comedy" on May 3, 2015 to benefit the Center for Reproductive Rights-a global legal advocacy organization dedicated to advancing reproductive rights as fundamental human rights.

The night of karaoke and comedy will feature performances from Broadway stars, actors, and comedians who support access to reproductive health care, including Broadway legend Patti LuPone, Modern Family's Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Tony Award winner Montego Glover, Tony Award winner Lena Hall, and many more. Audience members will have the chance to bid on their favorite Broadway stars singing the song of their choice accompanied by a live band.

The event will take place at 54 Below at 254 W. 54th Street in New York, NY on May 3, 2015. Doors open at 5:15PM and the show starts at 6:30PM. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit 54 Below's website.

"This event will be filled with song and fun, all with the purpose of expanding access to reproductive healthcare," said Martha Plimpton, actor and A is For co-founder. "At this critical moment for reproductive rights, it's exciting to see the Broadway community coming together to support the fight for fair and equal access to health care."

Over the last four years, politicians across the U.S. have enacted more than 200 new restrictions on abortion. Today, women face an unprecedented and dramatic loss of safe, legal abortion services due to sham laws designed to eliminate access to reproductive health care-many under the pretext of protecting women's health.

The proceeds for "Broadway Acts for Women" will benefit the Center for Reproductive Rights, whose legal efforts have helped block such laws that attack women's rights and health all across the nation. The Center's recent work includes the injunctions against Texas's far-reaching clinic shutdown law that would have left just a handful of abortion providers in the entire state, North Carolina's demeaning forced ultrasound law, and extreme bans on abortion as early as six and 12 weeks of pregnancy in North Dakota and Arkansas, respectively.

"The powerful voices that are coming together for this event represent quite literally a growing chorus of people across the U.S. who are speaking out to say that every woman deserves equal access to essential health care, no matter where she lives," said Nancy Northup, President and CEO of the Center for Reproductive Rights. "We couldn't be more grateful to A is For and all the amazing stars that have come together to play a part in this fight for reproductive rights, health, and justice."
