Monday Nights, New Voices To Feature WICKED Star Lisa Brescia 10/27

The acclaimed Monday Nights, New Voices series continues October 27th at the Duplex Cabaret Theatre.

The series, produced by composer Scott Alan, showcases some of today's brightest ‘New Voices’ in New York.  The concert will be hosted by recent Wicked star, Lisa Brescia and will include performances by Ritter Hanz, Lucy Horton, Paul Louis Lessard, Lonna Marie and Quinn Van Antwerp. The evenings guest composer/lyricist will be Richard Rogers Award winner, Stephen Weiner. Weiner will accompany the New Voices on selection from his songbook

The evening will be musically directed by Barbara Anselmi who will also accompany the New Voices.

Lisa Brescia just returned from the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. where she appeared as Violet in Side Show in their presentation of Broadway: Three Generations, and recently finished her run as Elphaba in Chicago’s Wicked, after having spent a year in the Broadway production.  She starred on Broadway in The Times They Are A-Changin’ and was seen as Marion Halcombe in The Woman in White when she stepped in for British star Maria Friedman.  She played Amneris in Aida on Broadway for the last year of its run and was seen in the revival of Jesus Christ Superstar.  Regional credits include Evita (Eva), The Last 5 Years (Cathy), A Little Night Music (Petra) and Brigadoon (Meg).  For five years, she toured worldwide with The Mamas and The Papas.  Love to my partner Craig Carnelia.

 Steve’s writing for the Musical Theater has garnered the Jonathan Larson Award, Richard Rodgers Award, ASCAP Richard Rodgers New Horizons Award, Global Search For New Musicals and The New York Innovative (“IT”) Theater Award, along with Obie, Drama Desk, Lucille Lortel, and Chicago Jeff nominations.  Upcoming Broadway debut: “The Hudsucker Proxy” (Book and Lyrics by Glenn Slater), directed by Jerry Zaks.  Off Broadway and regional: “Iron Curtain” (Book by Susan DiLallo, Lyrics by Peter Mills), “Once Upon A Time In New Jersey” (Book and Lyrics by Susan DiLallo), “newyorkers” at Manhattan Theater Club (Lyrics by Glenn Slater) and “Spittin’ Image” (Book by Karin Kasdin, Lyrics by Laura Szabo Cohen).  Other highlights include a NYMF concert of his work, “Music of Stephen Weiner: Songs of Love and Aggravation” and further development of “Iron Curtain “ at the O’Neill Theater Center this past summer.  With lyricist Glenn Slater, their work was showcased at  “An Evening with Comden and Green” at Carnegie Hall and the team won the ASCAP Bernice Cohen Award for their score to “Lost In America” based on the Albert Brooks film.  Steve’s shows have played all over the country and in the United Kingdom, and his work has been heard at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and in numerous showcases and cabarets in New York City.  In the works: a new musical based on the 2007 film “Rocket Science” with lyricist Jason Rhyne and book writer Patricia Cotter.  Steve was a long time member of the BMI Musical Theater Workshop, a “graduate” of the ASCAP and Dramatists Guild Workshops, and is a member of ASCAP and The Dramatists Guild.  He and his wife Ryta live in Bucks County, PA. and have three daughters, Marla, Lisa, and Olivia.
