Mira Awad Returns to NYC to Reprise ARABIC FUSION at the Metropolitan Room Tonight, 11/20
The internationally acclaimed Arab-Israeli singer/songwriter and actress Mira Awad reprises "Arabic Fusion" at the Metropolitan Room for one night only, tonight, November 20 at 7pm. After performing with the Israeli star Achinoam Nini at Jazz at Lincoln Center in March, Mira premiered this highly original solo show in April, in her Metropolitan Room debut.
Singing songs that reflect her unique perspective as a Palestinian Arab citizen of Israel, Mira weaves together her passions for folk, rock and traditional Middle Eastern music. The result is a unique tapestry of sounds and songs (many of which are original) in English and Arabic.
Mira is a well-known advocate for the cause of equality and peaceful co-existence between Israel's Jewish and Arab citizens. She and Achinoam (popularly known as Noa), who appear together frequently across Europe and in Israel, represented Israel at the Eurovision Song Contest in Moscow in 2009, performing their hit song "There Must Be Another Way" for a huge, international television audience.
Born in Rameh in Galilee to a Palestinian father and a Bulgarian mother, Mira stars on one of Israel's most popular television shows, Arab Labor, a comedy that tackles the thornier aspects of Jewish and Arab co-existence. She has also appeared on stage in musicals like "My Fair Lady," in concert, and again on television in a hotly contested season of Israel's version of Dancing with the Stars. Her debut solo album, "Bahlawan-Acrobat" was released in 2009.
"Mira Awad: Arabic Fusion" performs one-night only, tonight, November 20 at 7pm, at the Metropolitan Room, 34 West 22nd Street (between 5th & 6th Avenues). There is a $20 music charge and a two-drink minimum. For reservations call 212/206-0440 or to order online visit www.metropolitanroom.com.
