Michael Feinstein Joined by Songbook Academy Winners in Concert at Carnegie Hall Tonight
Five-time Grammy Award nominee Michael Feinstein will present four recent winners of the Great American Songbook Academy in concert at Carnegie Hall tonight, February 10, 2016. The students will join Feinstein at Zankel Hall for an evening of song entitled, Blame It On My Youth: the next generation of Songbook Ambassadors.
The Songbook Academy is a summer music intensive for young singers who have an interest in the American Songbook. Students who love the music of classic Broadway shows, jazz, and popular music have the life-changing opportunity to work with music industry pros, Broadway veterans, award winning performers, and educators from the top university music and theatre programs in the country.
The Songbook Academy is a celebration of the Golden Age of American Popular music. This program is the only high school intensive in the U.S. dedicated solely to the music from Broadway, Hollywood musicals and the Tin Pan Alley era of the early to mid-twentieth century (1920s - 1960s).
"The Songbook Academy is a transformative experience," said Michael Feinstein, founder of the Great American Songbook Foundation and Songbook Academy. "It is a place where young people can come and learn about the Great American Songbook in an intensive way. We spend every moment of that time sharing, educating, and uplifting in a way that we feel will change the lives of our students forever. It is a special honor to present these young artists at Carnegie Hall. How fitting to introduce the next generation of American Songbook Ambassadors on the stage of America's premier concert hall," said Feinstein.
Michael Feinstein shares his love of popular song by fostering young singers across the country in his Great American Songbook Academy. See the next generation of Songbook stars as they join their mentor, Michael Feinstein, on Wednesday, February 10 at Zankel Hall at 7:30 PM. Tickets may be purchased at the Carnegie Hall box office at 57th Street and Seventh Avenue, online at CarnegieHall.org, or by phone at 212-247-7800.
