Mare Winningham Plays Barrow Street Theatre, 7/16

By:

Academy Award® nominated and Emmy Award® winning actress and singer/ songwriter Mare Winningham (Georgia) will play an intimate evening of music at the Barrow Street Theatre (27 Barrow Street) on Monday, July 16th at 8:00 PM. Winningham, who is currently starring in the Drama Desk Award-winning new play Tribes at the Barrow Street Theatre, will be accompanied by Tim Crouch on fiddle/mandolin and Irl Hees on upright bass, playing original country folks songs and Hebrew lullabies.

Winningham, who was nominated for Lucille Lortel Award for her work in Tribes and recently starred in the History Channel miniseries “Hatfields & McCoys,” has released three albums: What Might Be (1992), Lonesomers (1998), and most recently, Refuge Rock Sublime (2007). Refuge Rock Sublime features entrancing bluegrass and Jewish-themed country folk songs (she converted to Judaism in 2003), born after a collaboration with fiddler and mandolin player extraordinaire Tim Crouch. This spiritual and folksy fusing of different musical styles inspired by Mare’s experiences with bluegrass artists in Eureka Springs, Arkansas sets the stage for this inspired night of music.

Tickets for “Country–Jewish–Folk, Or Jewgrass” are $25.00 and available now at www.SmartTix.com, by phone at 212-868-4444, or at the Barrow Street box office. Seating is general admission; doors and bar open at 7:30 PM for the 8:00 PM, which is 75 minutes.

The Barrow Street Theatre is located at 27 Barrow Street at 7th Avenue South in the heart of Greenwich Village. Nearby subway stops are the 1 at Christopher Street (walk 1 block South on 7th Avenue to Barrow) and the A, C, E, B, D, F and M at West 4th (walk West on 4th Street, left on Barrow).
