Karen Finley, the most controversial woman in performance today, will present her latest work IMPULSE TO SUCK, inspired by the Eliot Spitzer prostitution scandal. It will be presented for one performance only -- Saturday, May 30 at The Cherry Pit. The performance will be filmed.

Karen Finley was in Albany on March 10, 2008 to hear a speech from Governor Eliot Spitzer on Reproductive Health. Instead, Spitzer performed an apology for his involvement in a prostitution ring -- with his supportive, devastated wife Silda standing next to him. IMPULSE TO SUCK uses the confession, the sexual encounter, the apology to his wife, and many other facets of the scandal to examine the repercussions of knowing the intimate lives of our political leaders.

Since her first performances in the early 1980's, Karen Finley has become synonymous with performance art. She is the recipient of two Obies, two Bessies, and multiple grants from the NEA and NYSCA. She has toured internationally with pieces including George & Martha, The American Chestnut, A Certain Level of Denial and The Return of The Chocolate Smeared Woman. In 1990, Finley became an unwilling symbol for the NEA when she, along with Tim Miller, Holly Hughes & John Fleck, sued the NEA for withdrawing grants on the grounds of indecency.

IMPULSE TO SUCK runs Saturday, May 30 at 8pm. The Cherry Pit is located at 155 Bank Street between Washington & West Streets in the West Village. Tickets are $20, available at 212-352-3101 www.SpinCycleNYC.com.
