Amber Martin to Sing Favorite Laura Nyro Songs at 54 Below, 6/16 & 23

Amber Martin is an acclaimed NYC vocalist and comedic performance artist in the traditions of Lily Tomlin and Carol Burnett. Her shows have been likened to "watching Ruth Draper after she's come back from an acid trip during which she thought she was Janis Joplin." Until now!

Amber stars in Stoned Soul: Amber Martin Sings Her Favorite Laura Nyro, at 54 Below for two Sundays, June 16th and 23rd, 2013. This high-octane vocalist will be belting out a collection of the best songs ever written by Laura Nyro. Amber will be joined onstage by a bevy of superior musicians, including Matt Ray (piano), Claudia Chopek (violin), Nath Ann Carrera (guitar), Dave LeBleu (percussion) and Patrick Johnson (backup vocals). Lovers of Laura Nyro will have an evening of their life, hearing some of Laura's hits and some very obscure deep cuts performed live like they've never heard them. Those who do not know the work of Ms. Nyro yet simply cannot afford to miss this high level of Nyro education!

Amber's recent projects include belting out the backing vocals on The Scissor Sisters hit single "Inevitable" from their album, "Magic Hour". Amber also continues to evolve as writer, curator, and star of her sold-out performance series Amber Alert!, Hi!, and Wigshop - altered collections of music-focused vignettes drawn from Amber's own true stories and her toy box of strange and fascinating characters - including such powerhouse guest stars as Karen Black, John Cameron Mitchell, Jake Shears, Justin VivIan Bond and Bridget Everett.

Amber Martin was named one of the top performers of 2010 by Hilton Als in The New Yorker.
