SONDHEIMAS is the annual quasi-religious celebration of the birth of the savior of musical theater, Stephen Sondheim. The team that brought you last year's sold-out show at Feinstein's/54 Below is back with another raucous celebration of the man, the music, and the mythos. Expect songs familiar and obscure, irreverent schtick, and a warm holiday feeling that can only come from a gathering of the faithful celebrating together. Produced by David Levy and Maggie Larkin. With a growing YouTube fan base of 3,000+ subscribers, Emily Kay loves sharing her passion for music through her own arrangements of popular songs, original music, and overall quirkiness. A little bit of pop, a hint of folk, a dash of musical theatre, and a lot of sunshine, EmKay hits the solo stage for the first time to sing some of her favorite music and share her own voice.
MANN...AND WIFE IN CONCERT, MARCH 22 AT 7PM:
Mann... and Wife, an "engaging" new musical, tells the story of Henry Mann, a starry-eyed 32-year-old writer who discovers that the love of his life has met someone new and is about to get married. What's worse, he has been invited to her wedding! What follows are Henry's frantic attempts to find a woman he can take as his date - a potential future wife - to prove to his ex-fiancée (and the world) that he too is ready to move on. Based on the novel Nine Wives by Dan Elish (which was the former title of the musical), Mann... and Wife features music and lyrics by Douglas J. Cohen, winner of the Richard Rodgers, Noel Coward, and Fred Ebb Awards, whose musicals include The Gig and No Way To Treat A Lady, and lyrics and book by Dan Elish, co-book writer of the Broadway musical 13. This "musically thrilling" undie-rock, comedy-pop duo don't just strip down their musical arrangements, they literally strip down to their underwear to perform their distinctive mashups and eccentric originals for cello and ukulele, with touches of glockenspiel, melodica, and a surprising array of under-used instruments. Award-winning singer-actors Lauren Molina (Marry Me a Little, Sweeney Todd, Rock of Ages) and Nick Cearley (All Shook Up) became YouTube sensations as The Skivvies, with living room videos that displayed their powerful harmonies as well as their powerful abs.
