The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced yesterday that Ricky Gervais will be returning as host for the 2012 Golden Globe Awards, according to TVGuide.com.  This will be the third consecutive year that Gervais has taken over the hosting duties and follows his very controversial appearance at last year's award's ceremony.

Gervais, perhaps best known for creating the comedy series The Office, caused a stir at last year's awards when he aimed what some considered to be, insulting comments at some of Hollywood's biggest stars including Charlie Sheen, Angelina Jolie and Tom Cruise.   After last year's show, NBC executives stated firmly that Gervais would not be asked back for this year's event.

Gervais contends that he did not go too far with his jokes and last year told TVGuide.com, "I think last year I didn't go far enough. This year, I went about right. If anyone was offended, then I don't care."

The 69th AnnuAl Golden Globe Awards Show is set to air Sunday, January 15th on the NBC network.
