TVGuide.com reports that Richard Schiff will be making a multi-episode guest star appearance on the CBS drama series NCIS.

The actor will play Harper Dearing, described as "an eccentric international businessman who is no stranger to hobnobbing with the world's elite. He is haunted by the loss of his son, who died in a terrorist bombing some years ago."

Executive producer Gary Glasberg tells TVGuide.com. ""I was a huge West Wing fan. Richard Schiff is a brilliantly gifted actor and I'm thrilled he's joining us for this multi-episode storyline. The mysterious character of Harper Dearing is enormously complex and Richard will bring unexpected nuance to the part. This is a treat that will help propel us into the finale of what's been a tremendous season."

According to the report, Schiff's character may reappear when the series returns next season.

Schiff received an Emmy award for his role as as communications director Toby Ziegler on The West Wing. His other TV credits include Roswell, Burn Notice, White Collar and the short-lived Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior. He was most recently seen on Showtime's House of Lies.

NCIS airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on CBS. The Season 9 finale is scheduled to air May 15.
