Daniel Radcliffe to Star as Olympian Sebastian Coe in GOLD

Deadline reports that Daniel Radcliffe will portray Olympian Sebastian Coe in an upcoming sports drama to be titled GOLD. The 'Harry Potter' star will reunite with director James Watkins who recently helmed the actor's 'Woman in Black.'

The film will center on the rivalry between Olympic athletes Coe and Steve Ovett in the years preceding the start of the 1980 Summer Games in Moscow. The athletes began a heated rilvary in 1972 as they traded victories back and forth leading up to the games. Ironically, in Moscow they were victorious in the other's specialty event.

Simon Beaufoy penned the scrit along with Will Davies (How To Train Your Dragon) which is based on Pat Butcher's book The Perfect Distance. Production is set to get underway in the UK and Russia beginning in April 2014.

Radcliffe's recent film work includes roles in Kill Your Darlings, Horns and The F Word. The actor will next be seen on the big screen in Frankenstein. He also recently finished a run starring onstage in Michael Grandage's production of The Cripple of Inishmaan at the West End's Noel Coward Theatre.

The actor is best known for playing the title role in the 'Harry Potter' film franchise. He made his Broadway debut, to much acclaim, in Equus, and made his Broadway musical debut as J. Pierrepont Finch in the recent revival of the Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning How to Suceed in Business Without Really Trying.
