Deadline.com reports that Tony, Emmy, and Grammy-winner Cynthia Nixon ('Sex and the City,' RABBIT HOLE) has joined the cast of Showtime's 'The Big C' in a recurring role. There is no word on whether or not this will affect her chances of starring in a West End production of AS BEES IN HONEY DROWN, as was rumored and reported by BroadwayWorld earlier this month.

'The Big C' is headlined by three time Academy Award-nominee and three-time Tony Award-nominee Laura Linney as 'Cathy,' a repressed suburban teacher, wife and mother who reclaims her life after a terminal cancer diagnosis. Oliver Platt (GUYS AND DOLLS) stars as her immature, but well-meaning husband. Oscar nominee Gabourey Sidibe plays a smart-alecky student in Cathy's class.

'The Big C' is created and written by Darlene Hunt, who serves as executive producer, along with Showrunner Jenny Bicks, Linney, Neal H. Moritz and Vivian Cannon. It is produced by Original Film in association with Sony Pictures Television. Acclaimed writer/director/producer Bill Condon ('Breaking Dawn,' 'Dreamgirls,' screenplay of 'Chicago') directed the pilot.

Actress Cynthia Nixon is best known for her role as Miranda Hobbes on the television series 'Sex and the City.' She also has extensive stage credits and has appeared in such Broadway plays as RABBIT HOLE (for which she won a Tony Award), THE HEIDI CHRONICLES, THE WOMEN, and ANGELS IN AMERICA. She has also won two Emmy Awards (one for the final season of 'Sex and the City,' and one for a guest spot on 'Law & Order: SVU') and a Grammy Award for Best Spoken Word Album for 'An Inconvenient Truth.'
