The New Orleans Hotel Collection has announced a special three-night package to commemorate the famous "Battle of New Orleans." The Battle of New Orleans was fought just downriver from the city on January 8, 1815 and served to confirm an important victory against a vastly superior force for the United States in the War of 1812.

Pakenham's Final Supper
Included in the above historic package is a wonderful period dinner attended by actors portraying General Sir Edward Pakenham and GenerAl Jackson, among others. The period dinner recreates a meal that would have been served at an important function in the early 1800's, with research done by Chef Agnes Bellet, longtime chef of Hotel Mazarin, where the dinner will be held. This five-course candlelight dinner, served with wine, will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at 6:30 pm and is open to individual guests at a purchase price of $129 per person, inclusive of tax and gratuities. Throughout the U.S., groups are recreating events from the period of the War of 1812 as part of the Bicentennial celebrations. The War of 1812 is often referred to as the "War that Forged a Nation," or "America's Second War of Independence." Bicentennial commemorations and activities will continue through till the Bicentennial of the Battle of New Orleans (January 8, 2015).
