Marshall, MI - Tickets are still available for the Marshall Historical Society's 36th annual Candlelight Walk on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 12-13.
The event features guided tours of four historic homes and two downtown apartments decorated for the holiday season. The homeowners and family members will greet the visitors. Each tour begins with a reception at the Franke Center for the Arts, 214 E. Mansion St.
Tours are at 4:30 and 6:45 p.m. both days. Ticket sales are limited to 150 per tour. Participants are urged to arrive 20-30 minutes before the scheduled tour times to enjoy the receptions.
Ann Rhodes, Candlelight Walk co-chairperson with her husband Steve, noted that the event usually sells out. She said the tour is very compact this year with the homes on adjoining streets and that all the sites are on the December tour for the first time. She added, "We'll be gathering at the newly refreshed Franke Center so Candlelight Walkers will get to see that building in its new state."
The homes on the 2015 Candlelight Walk are those of Melanie Snodgrass, 323 N. Madison St.; Natalie and Don Rector, 404 N. Madison St.; Michelle and David
Swender, 311 N. Division St. and Kevin Daus and Duane Dupee, 425 N. Division St. Also on tour are the Avenue and Townhouse extended-stay apartments above the Serendipity gift shop, 108 W. Michigan Ave.
Tickets are $25 and can be purchased through the Marshall Historical Society's website at marshallhistoricalsociety.org or by calling (269) 781-8544. Ticket purchasers are asked to select their preferred tour times.
Tour proceeds are used to maintain the society's three museums and to support community efforts to preserve and showcase Marshall's heritage. This Old House magazine has recognized Marshall as one of the 10 Best Old-House Neighborhoods in the U.S. and Canada.
