New York City's premier sailing company, Manhattan by Sail, returns for another season beginning on Friday, April 24th. Manhattan by Sail provides a wide range of public tours and private events throughout each season. Adding to their successful roster this year will be three new sails aboard The Clipper City Tall Ship: Standards Under The Stars, Clipper Castaways, and Hudson Harbor Guided Tour.
The new programming is being integrated into the current catalog of popular sails that will be returning like the Lobster & Beer Lovers, Jazz, Burlesque, Champagne Brunch and the specialty tasting sails that include Wine, Whiskey and Craft Beer.
This season, with the introduction of the Hudson Harbor Guided Tour, patrons will cruise the Hudson River and take in the panoramic views of the New York Skyline, and learn about the rich history of the classic landmarks passed by each sail. Hudson Harbor Guided Tour Sail will focus on the past of New York City Harbor and the surrounding areas, its role in the creation of the nation, immigration, and architecture. Now each time a guest ponders 'what's that building?' they will learn and discover the vast cultural influences that make Manhattan the iconic melting pot it is today.
'Standards Under The Stars' - will offer Broadway entertainment as you, literally, sail under the stars! This new program will set sail at dusk and patrons will enjoy a two-hour moonlit cruise with music performed by vocalist, Megan Loughran, accompanied by a live jazz quartet. Everything sounds sweeter on the deck of an historic vessel amidst the twinkling city lights.
For the more adventurous type, Manhattan by Sail is introducing an interactive pirate sail, called Clipper Castaways. Sip on pirate themed cocktails and enjoy the show as a cast of swashbuckling musicians, provocative pirates and racy wenches take over the Clipper City Sail, having landlubbers feel like they are aboard the Black Pearl from the popular movie Pirates of the Caribbean with Captain Jack Sparrow.
"It's been a long winter and we can't wait to get back on the water. Our new programs will complement the successes of our existing offerings," stated Tom Berton, Owner and Operator.
Manhattan by Sail has a diverse fleet of ships and a corresponding myriad of options for any and all who want to experience the thrill of sailing in the world's greatest harbor. Clipper City is a modern replica of a 19th century cargo schooner; it's a 158-foot long sailboat with masts and rigging reaching up to 120 feet from the deck and a capacity of 134 passengers. The vessel features spacious decks, comfortable and ample seating with a full bar - making for an experience like no other for viewing New York's famous skyline. Clipper City recently moved to its new home in Battery Park last summer. The ship now docks at Slip 2, Battery Park at the southern-most tip of Manhattan Island. Clipper City features a bevy of sailing packages from craft beer tasting, lobster & beer lovers, burlesque, jazz, and more! Shearwater Classic Schooner has seen America through many a historic moment; it was built exactly one month before the infamous stock market crash, it operated as a submarine-hunting patrol ship in WWII and it survived 9/11. In 2009, it was named a historic landmark and welcomes patrons aboard to share in its Gatsby-era story. Shearwater features packages such as wine tasting, champagne brunch, whiskey and chocolate tasting, and has a capacity of 49 passengers.
