Luxe Hotels gives new meaning to the social media craze of "Throwback Thursday," by offering hotel rates from 30 years ago on May 13th, in celebration of the 30th anniversary.
In honor of Efrem Harkham's 30 years in hospitality, the public will have 24 hours beginning at 8 am PST on May 13th to book hotel rooms at the 1983 rate of $130, for a limited number of rooms at select Luxe Hotels properties in Los Angeles: the Luxe Sunset Boulevard Hotel, the Luxe Rodeo Drive Hotel, and the Luxe City Center Hotel.
So what was the world like 30 years ago? The Luxe Sunset Boulevard Hotel had just opened its doors; the first mobile phones were introduced to the public; Michael Jackson's "Thriller" album was at the top of the Billboard charts; Microsoft Word was first released; the popular watch brand Swatch introduced its first line; the Pulitzer Prize was awarded to author Alice Walker for "The Color Purple;" the hit TV series "The A-Team" featuring Mr. T premiered on NBC; "Return of the Jedi" (Star Wars 3) was released in movie theaters; and the first American woman, Sally Ride, was launched into space with the space shuttle Challenger.
"It was an exciting time back in 1983 when we welcomed our first guests to the Luxe Sunset Boulevard Hotel," said Founder and Chairman of Luxe Hotels, Efrem Harkham. "We are now eager to welcome our 2013 guests, loyal guests who have been coming here for decades and new guests, to help celebrate our first 30 years with us."
The 30th anniversary price roll back is part of several promotions and events that will be offered this year. In June, Luxe Hotels will also launch a Luxe30 contest that will ask participants to submit photos of their own anniversary celebrations, resulting in one lucky winner and a guest winning a flight to Los Angeles and a luxurious stay. The festivities will also include a 30th anniversary recipe book featuring global dishes served at member hotels in Harkham's global representation company; a 30th anniversary art contest that will invite students to create a unique piece of artwork; and a 30th anniversary dinner celebration for media, community partners, employees and travel agents.
Hotel rooms offered at the $130 promotional price are available for a limited number of rooms at Luxe branded properties in Los Angeles on a first come, first serve basis and can only be booked during a 24-hour period on May 13 from 8 am PST to 8 am PST on May 14th and only for stays on Sunday, May 26 and Monday, May 27.
