Lark Hotels Acquires The Hotel Portsmouth

?Lark Hotels announced today the addition of The Hotel Portsmouth to its fast-growing collection of boutique properties -- its second in this bustling New Hampshire seacoast city. With 32 rooms and suites, The Hotel Portsmouth joins the ranks of sister Portsmouth property Ale House Inn and 11 other intimately sized hotels in New England and California.
Built in 1881 by the wealthy ship merchant and businessman John E. Sise, the hotel is a classic example of Queen Anne Victorian architecture, which was expanded upon in 1985 and opened as the Sise Inn. An elaborate, historically sensitive, six month renovation of the property was completed in April 2014 prior to re-opening as The Hotel Portsmouth.
"While rooms were updated with a contemporary feel, the previous owners took great care to preserve the gorgeous woodwork and architectural details, and we loved the results," said Rob Blood, Lark Hotels Founder and CEO. "With the addition of The Hotel Portsmouth, we now have the two most unique boutique properties in the city -- the Ale House Inn near the harbor and this hotel, which anchors the other side of the commercial district."
