The final transformation of The Palazzo Las Vegas Waterfall Atrium and Gardens summer floral installation is complete. The display, which evokes imagery of Venice's Carnivale di Venezia, has showcased three distinct color palettes throughout the summer months. Currently in its third and final "look," the 9-feet tall Venetian topiary women are modeling dresses inspired by fantasy fall fashions.
By the end of the display's three-month run, more than 200,000 stems of flowers will have been integrated throughout the organic creations and floral designers and gardeners will have devoted nearly 400 total hours toward the summer transformations. The concept took two years for the floral and horticulture teams to create from inception to completion. The spectacular display was first constructed on a computer model which took three months to build.
The topiary dresses for the current design were each constructed using a different element of fall and each dress is adorned with approximately 3,000 to 4,000 flowers including roses, carnations, orchids, flowering kale, and antique hydrangea. Oak and maple leaves, willow, fig leaves and mosses are also used in the dress designs. The flowers were shipped from Holland, Ecuador, and California, and each topiary requires eight hours of maintenance, once a week. The gardens are adorned with a variety of plants including hydrangeas, chrysanthemums, kalanchoes, fleurette mums, ivy, ferns, and various topiaries with different geometric forms.
Autumn preview: The next seasonal atrium design will begin installation on Sept. 7 and will be completed on Sept. 11. The autumn installation will feature cattails that soar 15 feet into the air, and two large floral pumpkins made of orange carnations. They will be surrounded by various fall flowers, and birch trees, with giant fall leaves suspended from the ceiling of the Waterfall Atrium and Gardens and lobby of The Palazzo.
