Piotr Beczala will sing the Duke in Verdi's Rigoletto on Thursday, January 27, replacing Joseph Calleja who is ill.

Beczala sang the role of the Duke for his Met debut in 2006. Beginning March 3, he will appear opposite Angela Gheorghiu in Roméo et Juliette, under the baton of Plácido Domingo. Other past Met appearances include Rodolfo, Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor, and Lenski in Eugene Onegin.

Other members of the cast for Rigoletto on January 27 remain as scheduled: Nino Machaidze as Gilda, Kirsten Chávez as Maddalena, Giovanni Meoni as Rigoletto, and Stefan Kocán as Sparafucile, with Paolo Arrivabeni conducting.
