Metropolitan Opera Announces Cast Change For OTELLO, 12/28

Carl Tanner will sing the title role in the December 28 performance of VerdisOtello, replacing Stuart Skelton, who is ill.

American tenor Carl Tanner has performed the role of Otello earlier this season at the Met. He made his Met debut as Dick Johnson in PuccinisLa Fanciulla del West in 2010, followed by performances as Radams in VerdisAida and Turiddu in Mascagnis Cavalleria Rusticana. Recent performances have included Radams at Washington National Opera, Otello at Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, and Luigi in PuccinisIl Tabarro at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. He was seen earlier this season singing the title role ofOtello at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow and at the Savonlinna Festival in Finland.

The cast for the December 28 performance ofOtello includes Julianna di Giacomo as Desdemona, Jennifer Johnson Cano as Emilia, Alexey Dolgov as Cassio, eljko Lui as Iago, and James Morris as Lodovico. Gustavo Dudamel conducts.

Performances of Otello, with Sonya Yoncheva as Desdemona, continue through January 10, 2019.
