Brandon Jovanovich in for Aleksandrs Antonenko at Tonight's CARMEN at Metropolitan Opera

By:

Brandon Jovanovich has agreed at short notice to step into the role of Don José in this evening's performance of Carmen, replacing Aleksandrs Antonenko, who is ill. Jovanovich is currently at the Met rehearsing for next month's revival of Shostakovich's Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk.

Brandon Jovanovich made his Met debut as Don José in the 2009-10 season and returned to the role in 2010-11. He has sung the role at Lyric Opera of Chicago, Houston Grand Opera, Los Angeles Opera, Dallas Opera, Bavarian State Opera, Arena di Verona, Zurich Opera, and Barcelona's Gran Teatre del Liceu. His other performances this season include Sam in Carlisle Floyd's Susannah at San Francisco Opera, Walter in Weinberg's The Passenger at Lyric Opera of Chicago, and Florestan in Beethoven's Fidelio at Zurich Opera.

Tonight's performance of Carmen is conducted by Pablo Heras-Casado and also stars Anita Rachvelishvili in the title role, Anita Hartig as Micaëla, and Massimo Cavalletti as Escamillo.
