The Music Center After Hours To Explore The Intersection Of Science And Art ImageSleepless: The Music Center After Hours (Sleepless), an immersive multi-sensory event, invites Angelenos to explore the intersection of science and art and reimagine the role of the artist as the scientist. Sleepless will transform The Music Center's Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in powerful new ways by connecting the two disciplines in a dynamic evening with exhibitions, performance art, live music performances, DJ sets and installations. Presented in partnership with Fulcrum Arts, the event** includes:

  • OVNI / Rafa Esparza + San Cha: Performance artist Rafa Esparza channels the Mayan sci-fi narrative of Pakal as San Cha provides vocal accompaniment in this stirring piece that reframes history.
  • WWJD / Archie Prakash: Archie Prakash offers a virtual reality experience focused on the effects of Christianity and video game culture that mixes iconography from the Bible and pop culture in a VR landscape.
  • Molecular Gastronomy Lab: Food transforms into art with live molecular gastronomy demonstrations.

  • 10,000 Peacock Feathers in Foaming Acid / Evelina Domnitch + Dmitry Gelfand: This presentation offers the opportunity to inspect the unusual behavior of light through giant projections of the molecular dynamics that occur within soap bubbles, as well as the mind-boggling phenomena of non-linear optics.
