Portland Ovatoins Welcomes The Hot Sardines to State Theatre Tonight

Portland Ovations opens its season with the unforgettably wild, consistently electrifying, live music powerhouse The Hot Sardines, playing hot jazz in high style at the State Theatre tonight, October 1st at 8PM.

Take a blustery brass lineup, layer it over a rhythm section led by a stride-piano virtuoso in the Fats Waller vein, and tie the whole thing together with a one-of-the-boys front-woman with a voice from another era, and you have The Hot Sardines. Glamour, grit, and passion, The Hot Sardines sound is a fusion of influences from New York, Paris and New Orleans with the result being distinctive musical magic. Bandleader Evan "Bibs" Palazzo and lead singer Miz Elizabeth front the Sardine ensemble of powerhouse musicians including a remarkable tap dancer - to play "hot jazz" as it was in the era when live music ruled. The Guardian of London states, "The charismatic front-runners of vintage jazz play big halls as if they've just dropped in to a party."

Tickets for The Hot Sardines are $22.50 to $45 for Ovations' Members and $25 to $50 for the general public. The Hot Sardines performance is sponsored by Dispatch Magazine and is co-presented by the State Theatre.
