Millersville University welcomes back The Newstead Trio, which has captivated audiences worldwide, from New York; London; Budapest; Lhasa, Tibet; Florence, Tuscany; Shanghai and Beijing. The Newstead Trio, which features pianist Xun Pan, cellist Sara Male, and violinist Michael Jamanis, regularly played at 42 North Prince Street when the building was the PA Academy of Music. This return performance, scheduled for tonight, November 14th at 7:30 PM, marks their first performance as a trio in this location in nearly five years.

To further denote the history of the trio with the building, the evening is being dedicated to the memory of Dorothy Lyet, after whom the front lobby of the Ware Center is named. Ms. Lyet, who recently passed away, was a major supporter of the arts in Lancaster and one of the original contributors to the funds to get the arts building constructed. Her support and leadership in educational, charitable causes and the arts was legendary.

Chinese-American pianist Xun Pan received his early musical training from his grandmother and pianists-parents, Pan Yiming and Ying Shizhen. He continued his studies at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, Syracuse University in New York, and earned the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Rutgers University in New Jersey. He is the creator of the Lancaster International Piano Festival.

Canadian cellist Sara Male received an Associate of the Arts in Music degree from the Victoria Conservatory of Music in Canada, where she was presented the Principal Emeritus Prize. Both Pan and Male teach music at the Ware Center as part of the Millersville University's Department of Music.

Michael Jamanis received a Bachelor of Music from The Juilliard School, a Master of Music from Yale University, and a Doctor of Musical Arts from Rutgers University. He has been the recipient of numerous awards throughout his career. Michael is also well known for his work with Music for Everyone , which provides funding to keep music programs in local schools and with that organization's youth orchestra.

The Newstead Trio's innovative and unique concert programming combines traditional piano trio literature with more contemporary works. They will be performing the works of Beethoven, Schoenfield, Ping Jin, and Brahms. There will be one intermission.
