Michot's Melody Makers Play July Residency at NOLA's Saturn Bar Every Monday

Michot's Melody Maker, the trio led by Louis Michot - lead singer/fiddler with the Grammy-winning Lost Bayou Ramblers - will be playing a Monday night residency at the Saturn Bar throughout the month of July, filling in for their pals King James & The Special Men. I'm hoping you'd consider advancing this show with a feature or advance blurb.

The group is composed of namesake Louis Michot on fiddle & vocals, plus fellow Ramblers Bryan Webre on bass & drum pad and Kirkland Middleton drums & drum pad. Their repertoire is composed of Louisiana-French fiddle tunes - some pre-accordion repertoire, and some songs that aren't tonally viable on accordion. Many numbers stem from the canons of Louis' biggest local influences: Leo Soileau, Dennis McGee, Harry Choates. All three fronted bands without accordions, while supporting other performers in outfits featuring accordion. Their first release (billed to "Louis Michot") has with Louis on fiddle, Bryan on drum pad, and guest appearances by Ashlee Michot on t-fer (triangle) and vocals, and Bad Chad on vocals; it's available on Bandcamp.

Michot's Melody Makers' first show was at the Pine Box Rock Shop in Brooklyn in 2015, and began as an opportunity for Louis to perform live with ad hoc line-ups; the first show featured LCD Soundsystem's Korey Richey on bass, Jason Robira on drums, and Jonny Campos on guitar.

The band has enjoyed its fluidity and having many different charter members since its inception; recent members include Josh Leblanc of Givers, Bad Chad of Imagine I Am, and Roy Durand of Underhill Family Orchestra. Over the last year, performances have mainly featured Webre and Middleton, Louis' bandmates in LBR.

MMM serves as an opportunity to try out new compositions, recently unearthed Cajun and Creole tunes. and experiment with samples.

Later this Summer, Louis will be releasing the single "Baby Girl" backed by The Special Men, on the Special Man Industries label. The song is a waltz written by the Special Men's King James and translated by Michot into Cajun French.
